Phillies announce Spring Training staff
01/29/2008 3:54 PM ET
The Phillies will have 22 instructors in major league camp for spring training, the club announced today.

Manager Charlie Manuel's major league coaching staff of Rich Dubee (pitching), Ramon Henderson (bullpen), Davey Lopes (first base/outfield), Steve Smith (third base/infield), Milt Thompson (hitting), Jimy Williams (bench) and Mick Billmeyer (catching) will be there as well as triple-A Lehigh Valley's staff, the minor league coordinators, three additional members of the player development staff and two guest instructors.

Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt and eight-time Gold Glover Garry Maddox will return as guest instructors. Schmidt has had his role with the club expanded this year as he will spend two weeks in camp and work alongside infield coach Smith with the third basemen.

Lehigh Valley's staff for its inaugural season consists of manager Dave Huppert and coaches Greg Gross and Rod Nichols. It will be Huppert's first time in major league camp with the Phillies and Gross' first since 2004. For Nichols, this spring marks his fourth straight year in major league camp.

All six minor league coordinators - Mike Compton (catching), Bill Dancy (field), Gorman Heimueller (pitching), Doug Mansolino (infield), Jerry Martin (outfield) and Sal Rende (hitting) - will be in camp, as well as Roly deArmas and Carlos Arroyo, the manager and pitching coach, respectively, for the rookie-level Gulf Coast Phillies. Baserunning/bunting instructor Anton French, a newcomer to the Phillies' player development personnel, rounds out the spring training staff.
