Switch-hitting second baseman Harold Garcia of the Clearwater Threshers is the Phillies Minor League Player of the Month for June.

Pitching honors for the month go to lefty Matthew Way of the Lakewood BlueClaws.

Garcia, 23, batted .370 by hitting in all 26 Clearwater games last month. Among his 37 hits were eight doubles, two triples and two home runs. He drove in 22 runs, scored 13 times and stole 10 of 13 bases.

Four days into July, he set a Florida State League record by hitting in his 37th consecutive game, breaking the previous mark set by Joe Altobelli of the 1951 Daytona Beach club. Ironically, Garcia's streak ended in Daytona Beach yesterday when he went hitless in three at-bats. During the streak, which began on May 24, he hit .354.

Garcia was signed as an amateur free agent in September of 2004 by Sal Agostinelli and Jesus Mendez out of Venezuela.

Through July 5, Garcia was hitting .335 with three homers, 32 RBI and 17 stolen bases, batting safely in 43 of his 46 games. He began the season in extended spring training and joined Clearwater on May 16.

Way, also 23 years of age, was 4-0 with a 1.32 ERA in four starts at Lakewood. He allowed four runs and 15 hits in 27.1 innings, with nine walks and 21 strikeouts. Opponents batted .165 against him.

Scout Tim Kissner signed Way, a fifth-round selection a year ago out of Washington State University. In his first pro season, Way was a combined 6-4 between Williamsport and Lakewood.

For the 2010 season, he is 7-4 with a 3.65 ERA for 15 games (14 starts), as of July 5.

Previous monthly winners this season include Lakewood RHP Joshua Zeid and Clearwater 3B Cody Overbeck in April and Lehigh Valley RHP Scott Mathieson and Reading 1B-DH Matt Rizzotti in May.
