PHILADELPHIA -- Helped by three home runs from Andruw Jones, Damian Moss outdueled Brett Myers in a 7-1 Braves win on Wednesday at Veterans Stadium.

Jones solved the 22-year-old rookie in the second and fourth innings, then clubbed his third in the eighth, a two-run shot off Jose Santiago.

It was Jones' first career three-homer game and the first for Atlanta since Jeff Blauser did it July 12, 1992, against the Cubs.

The Braves scored another run in the fourth when Darren Bragg singled and eventually scored on a double-play grounder.

Myers (4-5) lasted five innings, allowing four runs on six hits and no walks. He struck out three. The right-hander finished off his first season in the Majors with a 4.25 ERA in 12 starts. He had been 9-6 with a 3.59 ERA at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre before his callup.

Moss (12-6), a Rookie of the Year candidate, went 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run -- Placido Polanco's ninth homer of the season -- on five hits and two walks. He struck out five.

The Phillies (79-79) need to win at least three more games to finish at .500.

The teams combined to hit one ball out of the infield in the third inning, but each loaded the bases and threatened to score.

Atlanta went first. Marcus Giles singled to third, then was safe at second when Dave Hollins fielded Moss' sacrifice and threw a short hopper that Jimmy Rollins couldn't handle. Rafael Furcal then sacrificed to third and was safe when Polanco's high throw pulled Tomas Perez off first.

With the bases loaded and no outs, Giles scored on a double play by Matt Franco. Chipper Jones grounded to short to end the inning.

Rollins laced a one-out single to center -- the lone ball to reach the outfield -- before Polanco walked and Moss committed an error on a grounder by Bobby Abreu. Atlanta escaped when Pat Burrell grounded to Furcal, who stepped on second and threw to first base to complete the double play.

Abreu went 0-for-3 to snap his career-high 17-game hitting streak.

The Phillies face Atlanta for the final time in 2002 Thursday with Joe Roa (4-4, 3.88) opposing Kevin Millwood (17-8, 3.26). After that, Philadelphia heads to Florida to wrap up its season with a three-game series.
