The Phillies will try to make it two straight against the National League West-leading Dodgers in the second game of this series. Philadelphia broke a two-game losing streak with a come-from-behind 8-7 victory in the first game. Los Angeles, meanwhile, is in the throes of its worst stretch this season, entering this game with a five-game losing streak.
The Phillies will go with undefeated left-hander Eric Milton, who is 4-0 this season, while Los Angeles will counter with right-hander Hideo Nomo, who is 3-4 this season, with a 7.14 ERA. But Nomo is also 7-6 lifetime against Philadelphia, with a 3.89 ERA.
A big concern for the rest of the series and into the weekend series with San Diego is the condition of the Phillies bullpen. With Roberto Hernandez and Billy Wagner on the disabled list, Phils manager Larry Bowa has had to depend more on his starters. Vicente Padilla had to go seven innings in the opener, and Bowa will looking for at least seven from Milton, with a skeletal crew in the Phils bullpen.
