The following is the last in a series looking at the top prospects in the Phillies' Minor League system. This time we check out the relief pitchers, in alphabetical order:
RHP Joe Bisenius
Age: 24; Height: 6-4; Weight: 205; B/T: R/R; Resides: Sioux City, Iowa; 12th-round selection in 2004 First-Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma City University.
2006: Started season at Class A Clearwater, where he went 4-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 35 appearances; 62 strikeouts in 60 2/3 innings; opponents batted .216 ... Florida State League in-season All-Star ... Promoted to Double-A Reading on July 23, and went 4-2 with a 3.09 ERA in 16 appearances; 33 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings ... Held left-handed hitters to a .140 average.
Career: Three-year pro with 14-8 record and a 3.22 ERA in 102 games (15 starts) ... Has 189 strikeouts in 198 2/3 innings while allowing only 167 hits.
Scouting Report: "A good-looking prospect. Possesses a powerful arm. He topped out at 96 mph a few times. Curveball is his out pitch. It is hard with late bite and depth. Could move quickly once he develops better command."
LHP Eude Brito
Age: 28; Height: 5-11; Weight: 192; B/T: L/L; Resides: Sabana de la Mar, Dominican Republic; Signed as an amateur free agent on July 3, 1998.
2006: Spent most of the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre, where he went 10-8 with a 3.17 ERA in 26 games (23 starts) ... Allowed 116 hits in 147 2/3 innings ... Started two games for the Phillies and pitched in relief three other times in two different stints, going 1-2 with a 7.36 ERA.
Career: Eight-year pro with a 40-33 record and a 3.80 ERA in the Minors in 233 games (58 starts).
Scouting Report: "Live, running fastball. Sharp, hard slider. Changeup was a good pitch for him this year. Learned how to pitch more than just throw the ball. Command within the zone is his Achilles heel. Has a chance to be a reliever in the Majors."
RHP Andrew Cruse
Age: 22; Height: 6-1; Weight: 200; B/T: R/R; Resides: Cornelius, N.C.; Ninth-round selection in 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of South Carolina.
2006: Made pro debut at Class A Batavia, going 4-4 with a 2.57 ERA in 13 games, all starts ... New York-Penn League in-season All-Star.
Scouting Report: "Aggressive. Confident and not afraid of contact. Was a reliever in college. Took to changeup, which became his out pitch. Throws heavy ball and command will improve."
RHP Brett Harker
Age: 22; Height: 6-3; Weight: 185; B/T: R/R; Resides: Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; Fifth-round selection in 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of College of Charleston.
2006: Spent season at Class A Lakewood, going 1-4 with a 2.92 ERA in 46 appearances ... Led staff with 17 saves, including five in the month of May.
Career: Two-year pro with a 2-6 record and a 3.71 ERA in 55 games ... Made pro debut at Batavia in 2005, going 1-2 with a 5.06 ERA in nine games (seven starts).
Scouting Report: "Can throw two pitches for strikes. His fastball has some late life and his curve is sharp with late action. Can throw the curve ahead and behind in the count. Has the desire to compete and challenge the hitters. Needs to develop his changeup."
RHP Yoel Hernandez
Age: 26; Height: 6-2; Weight: 212; Resides: Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela; Signed as an amateur free agent on Nov. 5, 1998.
2006: Appeared in only nine games for Scranton because of a right shoulder strain which shut him down for the rest of the season on May 4 ... Recorded a save in six consecutive appearances.
Career: Eight-year pro with a 36-38 record and a 3.44 ERA in 218 games (76 starts) ... 18 career saves, nine over his last 49 Triple-A appearances.
Scouting Report: "Live fastball with good sinking action. Sharp biting slider. When he stays within himself his stuff is live. Slider is his out pitch. Will be behind in '07 camp, as he is rehabbing from the shoulder problem."
RHP Garet Hill
Age: 22; Height: 6-5; Weight: 215: B/T: R-R; Resides: Chino, Calif.; 24th-round selection in 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Biola University.
2006: Made pro debut at Batavia, going 4-3 with a 2.49 ERA in 17 games (four starts) ... Was 3-2 with two saves as a reliever over 31 innings.
Scouting Report: "Four useful pitches that are all thrown with confidence. Competes and wants the ball in big spots. Needs to improve on command and keeping the ball down."
RHP Ron Hill
Age: 24; Height: 6-3; Weight: 225; B/T: R/R; Resides: Wilmington, N.C.; 17th-round selection in 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
2006: He went 2-3 with a 2.30 ERA in 28 appearances at Lakewood, notching 56 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings ... Went 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA in nine games (two starts) at Clearwater.
Career: Two-year pro with a 4-7 record and a 3.32 ERA in 57 games (two starts), recording 116 strikeouts in 119 1/3 innings ... Made pro debut in Batavia bullpen in 2005, going 2-3 with a 2.96 ERA and four saves.
Scouting Report: "Good strong build with good arm action. Big-bodied reliever with power sinker and a four-seam fastball. Good make-up guy with good work ethic and aptitude. Needs to tighten slider and develop a changeup."
RHP Sam Walls
Age: 23; Height: 5-11; Weight: 195; B/T: R/R; Resides; Kearneysville, W.Va.; 10th-round selection in 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of North Carolina State.
2006: Made pro debut at Batavia, going 1-2 with a 2.67 ERA in 19 games (two starts) ... Began the season with a 15-inning scoreless streak.
Scouting Report: "Shows with ease two plus Major League pitches, a cutter and fastball with velocity. Hitters not comfortable when cutter is working. Good tempo and is aggressive. Will move as command allows."
LHP Michael Zagurski
Age: 24; Height: 6-0; Weight: 225: B/T: L/L; Resides: Omaha, Neb.; 12th-round selection in 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Kansas.
2006: Spent season in Lakewood's bullpen, going 4-4 with a 3.51 ERA in 42 appearances ... Struck out 75 in 56 1/3 innings and walked only 22.
Career: Two-year pro with a 7-8 record and a 4.00 ERA in 57 games (eight starts) ... Has 128 strikeouts in 101 1/3 innings and 37 walks ... Made pro debut at Batavia in 2005, going 3-4 with a 4.60 ERA.
Scouting Report: "Has a plus fastball that he can use on both sides of the plate. His changeup is his second-best pitch, with good arm speed and late action down. Loves to compete. Slider still needs work at this time but has shown a good one at times."
