PHILADELPHIA -- Blame Elvis.

That's how Phillies left fielder Pat Burrell explained his absence from Tuesday's lineup with stiffness in the left side of his neck.

"I woke up and Elvis' head was on my pillow," Burrell said, with a laugh. "I don't know what happened."

Elvis is Burrell's 115-pound English bulldog, and his need for affection apparently cost the Phils their starting left fielder for a day. Burrell said he couldn't turn his neck to look to his left, and was scratched from Tuesday's lineup about 30 minutes before first pitch. Greg Dobbs started and collected two hits.

After a good night's sleep, perhaps with Elvis on the floor this time, Burrell returned to his familiar fifth spot in the lineup on Wednesday.

"It feels fine today," he said.
