Herrera demoted to open slot for Bailey
Young righty makes 2008 debut in Thursday's series finale
PHILADELPHIA -- Homer Bailey was added to the Reds' roster to start Thursday's series finale against the Phillies.
Because Bailey took the roster spot of pitcher Josh Fogg, the Reds had to make a corresponding move before Thursday's game. They optioned reliever Danny Herrera to Triple-A Louisville.
Herrera was terrific in his Major League debut on Tuesday as he tossed a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two, with one intentional walk. Herrera entered the game with runners on second and third, but stranded both.
"He's fearless," manager Dusty Baker said.
Herrera had been promoted from Triple-A to take the roster spot vacated by lefty Kent Mercker, who went on the disabled list for the second time this season.
