Phillies honor Stars in ceremony
Cash, Glenn selected in special Negro Leagues Draft
PHILADELPHIA -- Bill Cash was the type of player who prided himself on always being "ready."
"When I put on this uniform," Cash said, "I'm ready to play. And I'm ready to play to win." That statement earned the former Philadelphia Stars catcher the nickname "Ready." On Thursday, the Phillies held a pregame ceremony to honor Cash and another member of the 1940s Philadelphia Stars, Stanley Glenn, by choosing them as ceremonial Draft picks. Like Cash, Glenn was also a catcher during his playing days.
