An interview with Manuel, Moyer & Howard
Phillies meet the media after Game 3 victory
Earlier in the year there was a push to kind of move Ruiz out of the starting lineup. You were adamant in your consistently staying with him. How gratifying is it now that he's become one of your better performers in the World Series?CHARLIE MANUEL: Yeah, like he's always been a good defensive catcher. And he throws good. And he was having trouble with his hitting. And at the same time when I used Coste, Coste was definitely, he was hot at times on offense. And like when we started winning games, that's why I stuck with Ruiz, our team got hot. And like I said the other day, it's not like Coste is not a good player or nothing, but once we started winning, I liked the combination, I kind of kept that. But I've always had faith in him. I've always had confidence in him and more than likely, if you follow me and the way I manage, I always go back and give a guy a chance. I don't give up on him, as long as he doesn't give up on himself.
