Ruiz to begin rehab stint Thursday
Phils catcher slated to play for Triple-A Lehigh Valley
PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz could be back in the lineup soon.
He is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment Thursday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Ruiz, who has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 11 with a strained right oblique, figures to play at least two games behind the plate before the Phils feel comfortable activating and returning him to the 25-man roster.
Ruiz had to be scratched from Monday's game with Lehigh Valley because he felt some discomfort in the oblique.
The Phillies checked him out and said he is fine.
Chris Coste and Lou Marson have been handling the catching duties with Ruiz on the DL. Coste entered Wednesday's game against the Nationals at Citizens Bank Park hitting .189 (7-for-37) with five RBIs. Marson was hitting .235 (4-for-17).
