Moyer seeks milestone victory at Citi
Philadelphia (14-11) at New York (13-13), 7:10 p.m. ET
NEW YORK -- Phillies left-hander Jamie Moyer is looking to pick up his 250th career victory Thursday night against the Mets at Citi Field.
A win would move Moyer into sole possession of 46th place on the all-time wins list, and just one win away from tying Hall of Fame right-hander Bob Gibson, who finished his career 251-174.
He will need to pitch better than his last outing. Moyer allowed seven hits, five runs, four walks and two home runs in 5 2/3 innings Saturday against the Mets at Citizens Bank Park.
PHI: LHP Jamie Moyer (3-1, 5.65 ERA)
Moyer has a 5.65 ERA after five starts this season, which makes him the second-best pitcher in the rotation. Unfortunately for Moyer, Shea Stadium no longer exists. He was 5-3 with a 2.26 ERA in his career at Shea.
Pelfrey wasn't satisfied with the performance that produced his third victory Friday night at Citizens Bank Park. His command was lacking, he said. And the Phils did draw four walks in his 5 1/3 innings. But he kept them quiet in four of his innings. Now he has to do it again. Spacious Citi Feld ought to be an ally, certainly more of one than the Phillies' smallish digs. He has a 2-2 record and 4.28 ERA in five career starts against Philadelphia. Chase Utley has three hits in 12 at-bats against Pelfrey, but the hits are a double and two home runs. Greg Dobbs has five hits, one a home run and one a double, in nine at-bats against the Mets starter. Tidbits
