Manuel feeling no All-Star pressure
Phils manager well aware NL hasn't won Classic since '96
PHILADELPHIA -- The time is coming when Phillies manager Charlie Manuel is going to be asked to do what no National League manager has done since 1996 at Veterans Stadium:
Win an All-Star Game.
"I haven't had time [to think about it]," Manuel said Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park.
Manuel has to pick two NL managers to join the Phils' coaching staff at the All-Star Game on July 14 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Manuel said he isn't ready to announce the coaches he has chosen.
"Take a guess," the skipper said.
Told about the 12-year winless streak to the American League, Manuel said, "No pressure. Pressure was a long time ago. That's gone. But we'll break that streak. We're going there to win. I can say that."
