Victorino gets extra day to rest hip
Center fielder could return to Phillies' lineup on Saturday
LOS ANGELES -- Shane Victorino said he could have started Friday night against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
But why push it?
Victorino has a strained left hip, which he suffered Wednesday in San Diego. Victorino said Phillies manager Charlie Manuel wanted to give him an extra day to rest, and the center fielder could return to the lineup Saturday.
"It feels a lot better today," Victorino said. "We'll see how it goes."
The Phillies certainly could have used Victorino in the lineup Friday. He is hitting .343 against left-handed pitchers, and the Dodgers had lefty Eric Milton on the mound. Los Angeles has southpaw Randy Wolf pitching Sunday in the series finale.
