DL stint likely for Condrey

Final decision to be made before Tuesday's game

06/22/09 9:48 PM ET

PHILADELPHIA -- It looks like the Phillies have another relief pitcher headed to the disabled list.

Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Monday night that right-hander Clay Condrey likely is headed to the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique. Condrey would join closer Brad Lidge and left-hander Scott Eyre on the disabled list.

Left-hander Sergio Escalona could take Condrey's place.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said last week that Condrey had been bothered recently with a sore back, although Condrey downplayed it.

But an injury would help explain why Condrey, who underwent tests on his oblique Sunday, struggled in his last two appearances. He went 4-1 with a 2.14 ERA in his first 31 appearances this season, but went 0-1 with a 162.00 ERA (six earned runs in 1/3 inning) last week against the Blue Jays at Citizens Bank Park.

Amaro said a decision on Condrey would not be made until Tuesday before the Phillies open a three-game series against the Rays at Tropicana Field.
