Phillies president David Montgomery already has a World Series ring from 2008, and on Thursday, he claimed another honor as an ambassador for sports. The Philadelphia Sports Congress (PSC), a division of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PCVB), announced that Montgomery is succeeding Robert P. Levy as chairman of the Sports Congress as of October 1. Admiral Tom Lynch, co-chairman of the Philadelphia Army/Navy Host Committee, was named vice chairman.
The Sports Congress works to attract major national and international sporting events and conventions to the Philadelphia region and generate economic impact and jobs for the citizens of Philadelphia. For more than 20 years, PSC has played a major role in bringing events such as ESPN X Games, the NBA All-Star Game, U.S. Olympic Trials in gymnastics and table tennis and the annual Army-Navy college football game.
"The Sports Congress has done an outstanding job of showcasing Philadelphia as a preeminent destination for sporting events," Montgomery said. "Personally, it's an honor to follow Bob Levy, who has contributed so much to the Philadelphia sports community. I'm particularly pleased to partner with Tom Lynch as we attempt to build on the success of the Sports Congress under Bob's leadership."
