Lidge has successful elbow surgery

PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies said closer Brad Lidge had successful surgery on Wednesday to repair his flexor pronator tendon and should be throwing within eight weeks.

Lidge also had a loose body removed from his right elbow.

"Brad could be one to two weeks behind in Spring Training, but, overall, we feel very good about his recovery time," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement. "We're hopeful that he will be ready close to Opening Day."‬

The Phillies said Lidge's surgery was less extensive than the surgery left-hander J.C. Romero had last month. Romero could be back sometime in April.
