PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies claimed infielder Carlos Rivero off waivers from the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.

Rivero spent the 2010 season with Double-A Akron. He hit .232 with six home runs, 43 RBIs, a .278 on-base percentage and a .325 slugging percentage in 110 games.

The Phillies have 34 players on their 40-man roster.

In other news, the Houston Astros interviewed former Phillies hitting coach Milt Thompson for the same position in their organization on Monday, according to agent Burton Rocks.
