LAKELAND, Fla. -- Solo home runs from John Mayberry Jr. and Bryan Holaday provided the lone scoring until Scott Thorman's walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, sending the Tigers to a 2-1 win over a Phillies split squad on Sunday afternoon at Joker Marchant Stadium.

Mayberry's first home run of the spring was the only damage off Tigers starter Phil Coke over four innings in his third Spring Training start. Coke fell behind on a 3-0 count before Mayberry sent a 3-1 pitch into a breeze blowing out to right field. Philadelphia's other three hits off Coke were all singles, two of them by Wilson Valdez.

Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick held Detroit's offense to one hit, an Andy Dirks first-inning single, over three innings. David Herndon's walks to Dirks and Brandon Inge in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, were the Tigers' only other baserunners until Holaday took Michael Stutes deep to left in the eighth inning. It marked the first home run of the spring for Holaday, a sixth-round pick in last June's First-Year Player Draft.

The game remained tied until former Tigers closer Matt Anderson, making a comeback attempt in Phillies Minor League camp, entered in the bottom of the ninth. After singles from Don Kelly and Dirks put runners at the corners with one out, Thorman turned on a 96-mph fastball from Anderson and lined it into right field.

Up next for the Tigers: Detroit makes its longest road trip so far this spring Monday, pitting Brad Penny against his former National League East foes, the Mets, in a 1:05 p.m. ET game at Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Chris Oxspring, Alberto Alburquerque, Lester Oliveros, Brendan Wise are among the relievers set to face New York, which will send knuckleballer R.A. Dickey to the mound for the start.

Up next for the Phillies: Philadelphia will head across the Courtney Campbell Causeway to Tampa, Fla., where they'll have a 1:05 p.m. ET meeting with the Yankees at Steinbrenner Field. Roy Oswalt is slated to make the start opposite A.J. Burnett in a game that can be heard exclusively on phillies.com.
