Players ranging from ages 16-25 are among the 52 Minor Leaguers who will participate in the Florida Instructional League program in Clearwater, Fla.
Staff reports on Sept. 16 and players work out for the first time at Carpenter Field two days later. Games will be played from Sept. 24 through Oct. 12.
Three 16-year-olds will be making their professional debuts: right-hander Lewis Alezones (11/25/95), infielder Willerkey Isava (1/21/96) and C Deivy Grullon (2/16/96). A fourth, outfielder Jose Pujols, turns 17 on Sept. 29.
The 25-year-old is Tim Kennelly, an eight-year pro who was converted from a catcher to a pitcher this season. Also making a position change in the FIL will be Andrew Pullin, the Gulf Coast League Phillies' leading hitter. The 5th-round selection this summer is moving from the outfield to second base.
Four prized left-handed pitchers will receive individual instructions from Sept. 24-28: Adam Morgan, Austin Wright, Jesse Biddle and Ethan Stewart. None will participate in games.
