D-backs recall A.J. Pollock, select contract of Mike Jacobs
Designate Cole Gillespie for assignment
PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced they have recalled outfielder A.J. Pollock from Triple-A Reno, selected the contract of infielder Mike Jacobs from Reno and designated outfielder Cole Gillespie for assignment, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.
Pollock, 24, hit .318 (136-for-428) with 25 doubles, 3 home runs, 52 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 106 games with Reno this season. He went 2-for-5 with a double, triple, RBI and 2 runs scored in last night’s Triple-A National Championship and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
Pollock has appeared in 22 games with the D-backs in 2012, going 14-for-56 (.250) with 1 home run and 5 RBI.
Jacobs, 31, batted .279 (93-for-333) with 15 doubles, 18 home runs and 60 RBI in 101 games with the Aces in 2012. He led the Aces with 4 postseason home runs and 12 RBI as Reno clinched its first Pacific Coast League title in club history.
Jacobs is a career .253 (489-for-1930) hitter with 100 home runs and 310 RBI in 556 Major League games with the Mets (2005, ‘10), Marlins (2006-08) and Royals (2009). He set career highs with 32 home runs and 93 RBI with Florida in 2008.
Gillespie, 28, appeared in 126 games with Reno this season, hitting .308 (136-for-441) with 35 doubles, 13 home runs and 66 RBI in 126 games. He played in 50 games over 2 seasons with the D-backs (2010-11) and hit .236 (26-for-110) with 3 homers and 16 RBI.
