Schmidt and Carlton bobbing head dolls highlight salute to 1980s weekend in June
When the Phillies hold their Salute to the 1980s during the interleague series with the Boston Red Sox the weekend of June 20-22, they will be giving away two truly special keepsakes.
All fans will receive a Mike Schmidt bobbing head doll on Friday, June 20 (7:05 p.m. game). Two days later, Sunday, June 22 (1:35 p.m.), a Steve Carlton bobbing head doll will be given to all fans.
This is the first time that the Phillies have given away a bobbing head doll of either Hall of Fame player.
The bobbing head dolls, compliments of Keystates Chrysler Jeep, will be the first ones given out during the 2003 "Field of Memories" season. A Phil & Phillis dual bobbing head doll will be given away to all fans on Saturday, September 27 (1:05 p.m.), compliments of M.A.B. Paints and Tastykake.
"We spent a lot of time trying to come up with one giveaway item that truly commemorated the championship season of 1980," stated Scott Brandreth, Phillies Merchandise Manager. "Since we couldn't agree on one item, we decided to do two very special giveaways of the two Hall of Fame players that helped bring us the championship. They were also key players on the 1983 National League pennant winners.
"Without a doubt, Schmidt and Carlton are the two greatest Phillies to play in the Vet," added Brandreth.
Six former Phillies who played in the 1980s will participate in an Alumni Batting Challenge on Saturday, June 21 (1:05 p.m.).
