Scott Sheridan was named the new head athletic trainer for the Phillies, Vice President and General Manager Pat Gillick announced today.

Sheridan, 36, replaces longtime trainer Jeff Cooper, who will retire at the end of 2006. A graduate of both Neumann College and West Chester University, Sheridan had been the Phillies' coordinator for rehabilitation and minor league athletic trainers the past four seasons. He earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training from West Chester University in 1991 and a master's degree in physical therapy from Neumann College in 1998. Sheridan is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and American Physical Therapy Association.

Prior to joining the Phillies, Sheridan spent 11 years as a staff physical therapist/athletic trainer at Chester County Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy (Physiotherapy Associates) in West Chester, Pa. In addition, he was an adjunct faculty member at Neumann College for three years where he taught an elective orthopedics class and served as a physical therapy consultant to Independence Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Brian Cammarota, 30, a minor league athletic trainer for the Phillies over the past seven seasons, will assume Sheridan's former role.
