Utley, Bell lead Philly over Boston

Second baseman, third baseman each go deep for Phillies

Phillies at the plate: Philadelphia ripped 14 hits off five Boston pitchers. Chase Utley laced a three-run home run in the first inning. David Bell was 4-for-5, including a solo home run in the seventh.

Red Sox at the plate: Boston hit three solo home runs in the first four innings -- one each by Mike Lowell, Kevin Youkilis and Trot Nixon. The Sox finished with nine hits, but they left eight runners on base.

Phillies on the mound: Gavin Floyd gave up five hits and four earned runs -- three coming on the solo homers -- in four innings. Geoff Geary pitched the fifth, and he allowed an RBI double to Nixon. Rheal Cormier, Ryan Franklin, Arthur Rhodes and Tom Gordon pitched an inning each.

Red Sox on the mound: David Pauley allowed eight hits and five earned runs in four innings. Keith Foulke, Mike Timlin, Rudy Seanez and Jonathan Papelbon each pitched one inning in relief.

Up next: The Phillies and Red Sox will meet again at Citizens Bank Park for the second of two exhibitions on Sunday at 12:35 p.m. ET. Philadelphia's Ryan Madson will start against Boston's Matt Clement in a matchup of right-handers.
