Lefty Perez hopes to catch on with Phils

Veteran hurler tried out for club in Dominican on Saturday

Pitcher Odalis Perez was found in the stands at the Caribbean Series in Santiago on Saturday and next could be spotted in a Major League uniform.

Perez, 30, had a tryout with the Phillies on Saturday in the Dominican Republic and said he hopes to hear from the club regarding a potential deal soon. "It went good," Perez said. "I'm going to hear back from them [Saturday] or [Sunday]."

Perez spent the last two seasons in Kansas City and went 8-11 with a 5.57 ERA for the Royals in 26 starts last season. He made his big league debut in 1998 with Atlanta. Perez was traded to the Dodgers before the 2002 season as part of a deal for Gary Sheffield. He remained with Los Angeles until he was traded to the Royals in 2006.

The left-hander made $7.75 million last season in the final year of a three-year contract he signed with the Dodgers prior to the 2005 season. For his career, he is 66-70 with a 4.47 ERA.
