Seanez back with Phillies Friday

Righty eligible to return from disabled list Saturday

SAN DIEGO -- Rudy Seanez returned to the Phillies Friday after two successful rehabilitation outings with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Class A Lakewood.

The reliever picked up a win at each of his stops along the way.

"How about that?" Seanez said. "I told those guys [at Lakewood] I want a share and a ring."

Seanez also wants to pitch again for the Phillies, something he can do come Saturday, when the right-hander is eligible to be activated from the disabled list. He was placed on the DL Aug. 1 with right shoulder inflammation, but had also been bothered by a sore back.

Signed before the season, Seanez has appeared in 31 games for the Phillies and compiled a 3.58 ERA. The righty compiled a 2.19 ERA in his first 22 outings before struggling with a 7.88 ERA in his final nine turns before landing on the DL.

His return will help alleviate some of the work given to righties Ryan Madson and Chad Durbin. It will likely also mean Les Walrond will return to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Durbin especially has begun to show signs of fatigue.

"[Seanez] plays a big role because he can come in in the middle of the game," Manuel said. "That allows us to keep Madson and Durbin organized in the back end of the bullpen. We have to make sure that when we get down to the end of the season, we have guys to call on to pitch for us."
