ST. PETERSBURG -- Like the order of the rotation, the Phillies are also sticking with the 25 players who brought them to their first World Series since 1993.
A Phillies spokesman confirmed that the team is unchanged from the roster that beat the Brewers in the National League Division Series and the Dodgers in the NL Championship Series. Manager Charlie Manuel had hinted before Monday's workout that his roster will likely be the same.
The Phillies will remain with an 11-man pitching staff, with rookie J.A. Happ selected over veteran Rudy Seanez, who is with the team in case of an injury. Happ tossed three innings against the Dodgers in the NLCS.
So Taguchi, the only member of the team who has been part of an on-field World Series victory celebration, will stay as the final bench player.The Phillies have brought four other players to St. Petersburg in case of injury: pitcher Kyle Kendrick, catcher Lou Marson, first baseman Andy Tracy and outfielder Greg Golson.
