By Alden Gonzalez / MLB.com
Former Major Leaguers Chris Truby and Ernie Whitt, along with Bob Milacki, Aris Tirado and former Phillies bullpen coach Ramon Henderson will join 21 returning instructors.
Steve Roadcap takes over as manager for Double-A Reading, with pitching coach Steve Schrenk and coach Frank Cacciatore rounding out his staff. Roadcap had spent the previous two seasons managing Class A Lakewood.
Whitt will manage Class A Clearwater. A former catcher, Whitt spent 15 years in the Majors with Boston (1976), Toronto ('77-78, 80-89), Atlanta ('90) and Baltimore ('91). He had also been a bench/first-base coach on the Blue Jays' big league staff the last four years. Whitt's staff includes pitching coach Dave Lundquist, who joined the Phillies' Minor League system last year with Lakewood, and coaches Henderson and Kevin Jordan. Henderson spent the past 11 years as the Philadelphia's bullpen coach before being reassigned last month.
Second-year manager Dusty Wathan will take over in Lakewood with Milaci as the pitching coach and Greg Legg as a coach; Class A Williamsport will be managed by Truby, whose staff will consist of second-year Minor League coach Eric Valent and pitching coach Tom Filer; and longtime Phillies Minor League instructor Roly deArmas will manage the club's rookie Gulf Coast League team and be joined by pitching coaches Tirado and Carlos Arroyo, and coach Luis Melendez.
