Foot feeling better, Utley back in lineup

Phillies star had been struck on right foot with pitch Friday

NEW YORK -- Phillies manager Charlie Manuel prepared two lineups for Wednesday night's game against the Mets at Citi Field:

One with Chase Utley

One without Utley.

Manuel ultimately used the one with Utley after the star second baseman tested his sore right foot during batting practice. Utley suffered the injury Friday against the Mets at Citizens Bank Park when Mike Pelfrey hit him with a pitch. Utley did not start Saturday against the Mets and did not play Tuesday in St. Louis.

"Some of the problems that he's having has to do with some of the swelling affecting some of the nerves in his foot," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "My understanding is that it improved today."

Utley had X-rays Friday after the game, but they were negative.

"We don't think it's serious, because it's improving," Amaro said.

Utley entered Wednesday hitting .346 (27-for-78) with eight home runs and 21 RBIs.
