Rollins finding his groove at the plate

Since day off April 26, Phils shortstop feeling comfortable

NEW YORK -- Jimmy Rollins said he asked manager Charlie Manuel to hit him eighth in the Phillies' lineup April 26 in Florida.

"Let's try something different," he said.

Manuel gave him the day off instead.

Rollins was hitting .162 (11-for-68) with two doubles, one home run and five RBIs at the time. But he entered Thursday's series finale against the Mets at Citi Field hitting .306 (11-for-36) with three doubles and two RBIs since. He led off the game with a bloop single to left field.

"It was good, I guess," Rollins said. "I feel a lot better. My body is remembering what it's supposed to do, positions it's supposed to be in. I'm putting myself in a good position to hit and hit the ball strong. My at-bats have been pretty good, I feel. Overall, I feel a lot better."

The Phils entered Thursday 10-1 this season when Rollins has scored a run. He crossed the plate on Ryan Howard's first-inning double.
