His 50-game suspension for violating baseball's policy against performance-enhancing drugs ends next week. Romero said he plans to pitch for Class A Lakewood on a rehab assignment Wednesday and pitch back-to-back days for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday and Saturday before he flies with the team to San Diego after Sunday's game against the Nationals.
Romero is expected to be activated June 3 in San Diego.
The Phillies will make a roster move to make room for Romero then.
Romero is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA (one earned run in four innings) in four appearances with Double-A Reading and Lehigh Valley. He has allowed two hits and one walk and struck out five.
"Overall right now, I'd give myself a 'B,'" Romero said, asked about how he is throwing in the Minors. "When I start getting guys out in the big leagues, then I will tell you what grade I give myself. I'm good. I'm healthy. I'm ready to go."
