Lidge throws pain-free rehab inning

Closer strikes out two in scoreless frame for Reading

PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies closer Brad Lidge tossed a scoreless inning in a rehab assignment for Double-A Reading against Harrisburg Saturday night.

Lidge threw 15 pitches and struck out two.

More importantly, he was pain-free, according to Phillies assistant general manager Benny Looper.

Lidge, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right knee, was relieved by left-hander Joe Savery to begin the second inning.

Lidge went 0-3 with a 7.27 ERA and 13 saves in 19 opportunities before the Phillies placed him on the DL. He is eligible to be activated on Tuesday and is likely to rejoin the Phillies sometime next week.
