O'Donnell tabbed as the Phillies' MVP Dad

SEATTLE -- Major League Baseball announced its 2011 "My Dad, My MVP" winners on Sunday, which recognized extraordinary fathers and father figures.

The Phillies recognized Brian O'Donnell, who is the father of two young boys.

Phillies players wore baby blue wrist bands during Sunday's series finale against the Mariners at Safeco Field as MLB continues its support of the prostate cancer research and awareness.

Manuel gives Polanco some rest in series finale

SEATTLE -- Phillies manager Charlie Manuel gave Placido Polanco a day off on Sunday against Mariners left-hander Jason Vargas. Wilson Valdez started at third base and batted eighth.

Polanco is hitting .150 (6-for-40) with one double, one home run and six RBIs in 11 games since June 6. He has hit .233 since April.

"He's banged up," Manuel said. "He has aches and pains. He's been struggling some and things like that. A little nagging stuff. All over. I figured [Sunday] would be a good day for him to rest."

Manuel also played Michael Martinez in left field and Ben Francisco in right field. Raul Ibanez was the designated hitter. Right fielder Domonic Brown got the day off. He is hitting .122 (5-for-41) with one double, three home runs and five RBIs in 12 games since June 6.

Victorino's daily double is case of deja vu

SEATTLE -- Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino hit a two-run, ground-rule double in the seventh inning and a two-run home run in the ninth inning on Saturday in a 5-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

Elias Sports Bureau said it was the second time in the past eight seasons a Phillies player had two multi-RBI hits in the seventh inning or later in the same game.

The last time it happened?

Victorino had a two-run single in the seventh inning and a two-run double in the eighth inning on April 26, 2009, against the Florida Marlins.

Worth noting

• The Phillies entered Sunday's series finale against the Seattle Mariners 17-5 (.773) in day games, which is the second-best record in baseball. The New York Yankees are 19-4 (.826) in day games.

• The Phillies' bullpen had not allowed a run in 15 2/3 innings over seven games. It is their third streak of 10 or more scoreless innings this season.
