Polanco scheduled for lower back treatment

CHICAGO -- Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco said he will receive an epidural injection into his lower back Thursday in Philadelphia.

Polanco has been on the disabled list since July 4 because of lower back inflammation. He had hoped to avoid an injection after receiving four of them last season, but the inflammation and discomfort has persisted.

He hopes the shot speeds up his recovery process.

Halladay throws, feels fine after heat exhaustion

CHICAGO -- Phillies right-hander Roy Halladay threw a bullpen session in the early morning heat Wednesday at Wrigley Field.

"Yeah, everything's good," he said.

Halladay left Monday night's game against the Chicago Cubs in the fifth inning because of heat exhaustion. Halladay is not pitching again until Sunday against the San Diego Padres at Citizens Bank Park.

He remains on course to pitch Sunday.

"He's fine," Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee said.

Martinez thriving in clutch for Phillies

CHICAGO -- Michael Martinez has had quite a month.

Elias Sports Bureau reports that Martinez, who broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run, ninth-inning double in Tuesday's 4-2 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field, has hits in each of his last four at-bats in late-inning pressure situations. All of them have come this month.

Martinez also has 11 RBIs in July, which ties him with Wilson Ramos for the second-most among big league rookies. Only Freddie Freeman (16) has more.
