Wade returning to Phillies in scouting role

Ed Wade, who was dismissed last month as Houston's general manager, has rejoined the Phillies as a special consultant to the baseball operations department, the club announced on Tuesday morning.

According to the Phillies, Wade will assist in salary arbitration consultation, while also scouting at the Major and Minor League levels.

Wade has a long history with the Phillies, having served in a variety of roles with the club, including as GM from 1998-2005.

"Ed had a very positive impact on the success we had in 2008, and his experience and knowledge will be a solid addition to what I feel is as good a baseball operations staff as there is in the game," Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said.

Wade, along with president Tal Smith, were dismissed by new Astros owner Jim Crane in late November. Wade had been the Astros' general manager since September 2007.
