Phillies place Lee on disabled list, recall Ruf
By / MLB.com
Left-hander Cliff Lee has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a grade 1/2 left elbow strain, retroactive to May 19, Senior Vice President and General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced. To fill his spot on the Phillies 25-man roster, OF/1B Darin Ruf has been recalled from triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Lee, 35, is 4-4 with a 3.18 ERA in 10 starts for Philadelphia this season. He was the Phillies' Opening Day starter and last pitched on Sunday, May 18, in a win over the Cincinnati Reds at Citizens Bank Park. This will be Lee's fifth career DL stint and first since April 19-May 8, 2012 (left oblique strain).
Ruf is batting .265 with three doubles, one home run and two RBI in nine games for Lehigh Valley in 2014. He missed the first month of the season after suffering a left oblique strain during spring training. In 85 career games with the Phillies, the 27-year-old has batted .257 with a .348 on-base percentage, 13 doubles, 17 home runs and 40 RBI.
