Top Phillies prospect Crawford swats pair of homers

Phillies' No. 1 prospect J.P. Crawford hit two home runs Friday to lead Class A Advanced Clearwater to an 8-7 victory against Daytona. It was his first career multihomer game.

Crawford, ranked No. 35 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, finished the night 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base. Center fielder Roman Quinn, the Phillies' No. 5 prospect, went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and a stolen base.

Crawford hit his first home run in the third inning off Daytona starter Jose Rosario. His second came off left-hander Nathan Dorris and capped a six-run seventh inning for the Threshers. The home runs, both solo shots, were his first since July 11.

Crawford, the Phillies' first-round pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, began the season with Class A Lakewood. He hit .295/.398/.405 with three home runs and seven stolen bases in 60 games and earned a spot on the South Atlantic League All-Star team.

The Phillies promoted Crawford to Clearwater to begin the second half. In 45 games with the Threshers, he is hitting .282/.354/.412 with six home runs and five stolen bases.
