3/23/2014 | Beckham's Opening Day status remains uncertain

Gordon Beckham believes his strained left oblique will be ready for Opening Day on March 31. The White Sox, in turn, don't want to push him just so he can be in that particular lineup against the Twins in front of the home faithful at U.S. Cellular Field.

3/23/2014 | Richards will gladly take contact outs over K's

Most 25-year-olds who feature three wipeout pitches tend to fall in love with the strikeout. Not Garrett Richards. The Angels right-hander prefers to generate early contact and get deeper into games.

Reliever Drew Storen has allowed six runs in 5 2/3 innings this spring. In Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Mets, Storen allowed a two-run homer to Curtis Granderson in the seventh inning. 3/23/2014 | Miggy makes first spring start at third base

Miguel Cabrera's big frame is back at first base this spring, but at least part of his heart remains at third, where he played regularly the past two years. In that sense, Sunday was a homecoming.

3/23/2014 | Lincecum hit hard, then Giants roar back vs. Royals

3/23/2014 | Mejia making a run at being Mets' fifth starter

With multiple decisions remaining for the Mets, Jenrry Mejia is doing his best to make one of them as difficult as possible. Despite a perception from the earliest days of camp that Daisuke Matsuzaka was favored to win the Mets' fifth-starter's job, Mejia is still very much alive in that competition. His five innings of one-run ball Sunday against the Nationals only solidified that perception in his penultimate start of spring.

3/23/2014 | Uggla back with new swing, and new optimism

The injury might have occurred trying to turn a double play in the sixth inning. He showed up on Sunday feeling sore, so the Rangers sent him for an MRI exam, and the results showed a tear in the teres major muscle.

Mariners outfielder Corey Hart was held out of the lineup for a third straight day on Sunday, and manager Lloyd McClendon revealed the oft-injured Hart is dealing with stiffness in his right forearm.

3/23/2014 | Veteran workhorse Buehrle has been in fine form

Mark Buehrle is about as reliable and consistent as it gets when it comes to starting pitchers in the Major Leagues. Even still, there have been at least a couple of surprises with Buehrle this year. The Blue Jays have seen him at his best before, but never quite this early.
