The Phillies 2008 Rookie and RBI League season kicked off on Tuesday, Feb. 20. Returning Rookie and RBI league leaders and coaches as well as those interested in beginning a Rookie and/or RBI league in their neighborhood attended the kickoff meeting at Citizens Bank Park. Attendees were welcomed by Christine Jereb and Mike Famigletti of Citizens Bank, the longstanding sponsor of the Rookie League program. Coaches and league leaders enjoyed a brief slide show of the 2007 Rookie and RBI season, as well as beverages provided by RBI sponsor Turkey Hill.
The annual information meeting was an opportunity for prospective and existing leagues to familiarize themselves with the program and network with each other. "It's great to have these kickoff meetings every year," stated Jon Joaquin, Coordinator of Fan Development and the Phillies Rookie and RBI program. "It gives me a chance to get everyone excited about the upcoming season, but also helps coaches meet one another." Leagues were welcomed by some guest speakers and then briefed on the necessary steps to take in order to get their leagues up and running this year. The meeting also highlighted fun and exciting events planned for the 2008 season. "There is a lot in store this season for the kids, as well as the coaches. We have our annual coaches clinic next week and are planning an umpiring clinic the following week. Some of our leagues from last year even took part in a pitching clinic hosted by (Phillies pitcher) Brett Myers this past January."
Joaquin and the coaches look forward to next week's 4th Annual Rookie and RBI Coaching Clinic on Wednesday, Feb. 27. For more information please contact Jon Joaquin at 215.218.5634 or email email@example.com.
