The Phillies are inviting local businesses, educational institutions and non-profit organizations to become a Phillies Civic Partner in a new Paint the Phillie Phanatic Public Art Project - a city-wide art program created to excite Phillies fans, increase community pride and raise money for local charities.
A select number of professional artists and/or a team of professional artists will have the opportunity to paint a five-foot, fiberglass replica of the Philadelphia Phillies mascot, the Phillie Phanatic.
The completed statues will be displayed throughout the Philadelphia area in March and April of 2009.
At the completion of the project, statues will be auctioned off with net proceeds being directed to Phillies Charities.
Local businesses, educational institutions and non-profit organizations interested in being a Phillies Civic Partner for the Paint the Phanatic Public Art Project will have the opportunity to display a Phillie Phanatic statue at their location of choice (location must be approved by the Phillies). Civic partners will also have the opportunity to display a plaque of their company/organization's name on the statue, as well as receive a listing on the Phillies website.
There is a $2,500 donation to Phillies Charities to become a Phillies Civic Partner.
Even though most painted statues will be collected and auctioned off by the Phillies, "Phillies Civic Partners" have the option of keeping their statue to display permanently or to help raise money for the charity of their choice. Statues can be bought for an additional $2,500.
