More than 5,500 fans - the most in Phillies Phestival history - turned out at the ballpark on June 22, 2009 to help raise a record total of $867,670 to help strike out ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), surpassing last year's total by over $100,000.
Since the Phillies adopted ALS as their primary charity in 1984, they have raised over $11 million for the fight against the disease, an always-fatal, progressive neuromuscular disorder.
This year marks the 20th Phillies Phestival and the 25th anniversary of the partnership between the ALS Association and the Phillies.
Since 1984, the Phillies have raised more than $11 million for The ALS Association, Greater Philadelphia Chapter's patient services and research. ALS, a progressive neuromuscular disease, is also known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease" after the Yankee first baseman. The ALS Association thanks the entire Phillies organization who works year round to strike out ALS.
