Nineteen women from the Delaware Valley have been selected to be the 2009 Phillies Ballgirls. The new team is comprised of local star athletes, coaches, teachers and college students, as well as design engineers and project analysts, among others.
"The competition to become a Phillies Ballgirl was extraordinary," said Michele DeVicaris, Phillies events coordinator. "There were 1,600+ applicants vying to be a ballgirl - an amount which nearly tripled last year's applicants. There were so many athletic, intelligent, talented women from which to choose, and we believe we have selected the very best to represent the Phillies both on and off the field."
In addition to working the foul lines during home games, the Phillies Ballgirls will continue to take part in various charitable events and softball games.
