• Daniel Dean (Dan) Warthen was named New York's pitching coach on June 17, 2008.

• Returned to the Mets organization in 2008 and began the year as the pitching coach for New Orleans (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League.

• From 2006-2007, he was the bullpen coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

• Was a coach in the Mets minor league system from 2003-2005...In 2004 and 2005, he served as the pitching coach for Norfolk (AAA) of the International League...In 2003, he was the pitching coach for the Florida State League Champion St. Lucie (A) Mets.

• In addition to the Mets and Dodgers, he was a coach with three other major league teams...Was the pitching coach for Detroit from 1999-2002 and for the Padres in 1996 and 1997...For Seattle, served as the bullpen coach in 1991 and the pitching coach in 1992.

• Became the Padres minor league pitching instructor in 1993...Joined Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League in 1994, and returned to his roving duties in 1995 before moving to the major league club.

• Returned to professional baseball as the Phillies roving minor league pitching instructor in 1984...Continued in that role through the 1986 season, then served as a pitching coach in Seattle's minor league system from 1987-1990.

• Was in private business in 1983.

• Was a player/coach in the Pirates organization in 1981 and 1982.

• Pitched in the major leagues from 1975-1978 with the Montreal Expos, Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros...Combined to go 12-21 with a 4.31 ERA in 83 games, 41 starts...Made his major league debut as a 22-year-old on May 18, 1975 with the Expos, pitching a scoreless inning against Cincinnati.

• Picked up his first major league victory on May 31, 1975 vs. San Francisco...Collected his first win as a starting pitcher on July 31, 1975, holding the Phillies to two runs over 6.0 innings in a 7-4 triumph.

• Was selected in the second round of the 1971 amateur draft by the Montreal Expos...Warthen turned down football scholarship offers From Nebraska, USC, UCLA, Michigan and Northwestern to pursue professional baseball.
