COACHING CAREER: Named Phillies bullpen coach on Oct. 4, 2012, his first ML coaching position...Spent eight seasons as the Phillies' triple-A pitching coach at three different affiliates: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (2005-06), Ottawa (2007) and Lehigh Valley (2008-12)...Began his coaching career with the Phillies in 2000 and served as the pitching coach for Piedmont (A, 2000), Lakewood (A, 2001) and Reading (AA, 2002-04).

PITCHING CAREER: Was selected by CLE in the fifth round of the June 1985 draft...Spent parts of seven seasons in the Major Leagues (1988-93; 1995)...Pitched a 7.0-inning CG (rain-shortened) in his ML debut, Jul. 30, 1988 vs MIN...Earned his first ML win, Sept. 7, 1988 at NYY, over Tommy John...Pitched for the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks in Japan's Pacific League in 1997.

PERSONAL: Rodney Lea Nichols... Married Sharon Sparks (Feb. 8, 1986); has three children: Katelyn (June 22, 1989), Christopher (Aug. 21, 1990) and Kellea (Jul. 25, 1995)... 1982 graduate of Highland High School (NM)... Was a three-year baseball letterman at the University of New Mexico... Played Little League and American Legion ball...
